I think this conspiracy theory could be true. Videogame reviewers are just totally corrupt. We need some honest reviewers out there.
Totally agree that the critics aren't critical enough. The problem is that the only companies that advertise in videogames websites and magazines are videogame companies. So of course critics aren't going to rip into a game when that game's advertising is paying their salaries.

I'm a sony fan, but I have to admit that I've been worried about textures on the PS3 for a long time now. COD4's textures were awful and almost ruined the game for me, and I'm starting to think that maybe, for some reason, the PS3 simply cannot make good textures at all. Uncharted and R&C looked incredible, but they were third person games, so you could never really see the textures up close the way you can with a first person game. I hope games like killzone 2 and resistance 2 prove that...
You can't trust video game reviews. All those Halo 3 reviews proved that to me beyond the shadow of a doubt. If any game out there is really getting a lot of hype before it comes out, then just mentally deduct 1.5 or 2 points off it's score to compensate for the score inflation. GTA 4 is a really good game, but the camera, the combat and the draw distance are terrible.
Shooting and aiming sucks. In fact, everything about the combat sucks. The camera sucks. The draw distance sucks. Still a great game though. I'd give it an 8.5. Vice City will always be the best.
Rockstar didn't ruin the series, but they didn't fix any of the problems with the camera and the combat that the GTA series has always had, and fixing the camera and the aiming should have been their top priority. Give me GTA4, but with saint's row's combat and camera and that game would have been a 10.

No, GTA4 does not live up to the hype. Not even close. Completely broken camera. Completely broken combat. The story, writing and voice acting are excellent, but the gameplay mechanics are even worse than prior GTAs, and are a complete failure.

I've read a ton of these GTA threads and nobody has said a word about how unbelievably terrible the camera in GTA4 is. Am I taking crazy pills? Isn't there one other person in the world who is bothered by that idiotic camera? What about the combat? Am I part of some psychological experiment? Don't believe the hype, GTA4 has many, many problems.
You're right sleepbox, Halo 3 did not deserve the hype, but neither did GTA4. GTA4 is a good game, but it sure as "heck" isn't flawless. The combat is trash, and the camera is the worst I've ever seen in any videogame. Something as simple as walking up to the third floor of any building is a frustrating nightmare. That camera is so, so terrible that it almost breaks the game. Flawless? Not even close.
Everything about GTA4 is incredible? Do you really think the combat is incredible? Really? Do you think the camera is incredible? I can't think of a single game with worse combat or a worse camera. Not one.
GTA4 is not even the best GTA, not even close. The GTAs have always had terrible combat systems and terrible camera, but 4 takes the camera and combat to new lows. A gun fight in a building in GTA4 is such a frustrating chore, its the opposite of fun.
Maybe EA could fix the g-damn camera. That camera is killing me. (Maybe they can fix the f-ing combat too.)

Jealous of what? We've all played the game, what would we be jealous of? Its a good game, but its not "near perfect". The camera sucks. The shooting/aiming/combat sucks. The draw distance sucks. The music (mostly) sucks. Near perfect? Please.
